Why Israel is going after Hamas

The MSM, which is as much in the tank for the Arabs who are trying to destroy Israel as it is for Barack Obama, will do its best to portray the Israeli assault against Hamas as "overkill", and won't be showing this chart of rockets launched by Hamas into Israel. That's why you have to read blogs - in this case, Jihad Watch - if you want to know what's going on.

Mumbai victims sexually assaulted before murder

According to Mumbai newspapers, Islamic terrorists forced foreign guests at Mumbai hotels to strip before shooting them. They went further against the rabbi and his pregnant wife at the Jewish center, mutilating their genitalia. Another day, another atrocity by members of The Religion of Peace.

Long term temperature and CO2 trends

Here's a long term chart showing global temperature and CO2 levels. Does it look like the planet is about to expire from global warming, or too much CO2? From the blog Watts Up With That?

An atheist thinks Africa needs Christianity

In this fascinating article, a confirmed atheist and old Africa hand admits he can't ignore the positive changes that Christianity brings to the people of Africa.

Even the European MSM is getting skeptical about global warming

As anyone who follows the English language European press knows, the MSM over there has been much more fanatically vocal about the supposed global warming menace. The BBC in particular has been rabidly one sided on the subject. However, as the last shreds of credibility fall from the anthropogenic global warming hoax due to overwhelming theoretical and practical evidence, even the Euro press is beginning to wake up.

This piece in the London Telegraph is a good example. The leftist political class and their allies in the MSM, however, can be expected to try to delay the inevitable debunking long enough to pass reams of taxes and regulations to "protect" us from this non-existent threat. In Europe, where the process is further along, the damaging result to European economies, already weakened by welfare state parasitism, is causing even these politicos to wobble on their commitments to the green fanatics.

Unfortunately, the incoming Obama administration is likely to use this pretext to ram massive new regulations and taxes down our throats until the damage becomes as severe as it already is there. For example, Obama has promised not to allow new coal fired power plants in this country, so we won't have access to our most abundant energy resource at a time when the rest of the world is switching to coal where ever possible.

Instead we'll be wasting billions, if not trillions, of dollars on energy pipe dreams like windmills and solar. Britain has gone down that road already, and is facing massive shortages of electricity within the next 15 years as a result. One wonders how close we'll come to lights going out before we reverse course on this madness.

How right wing Bible thumpers treat immigrants

Here's a story about how "gun and religion-clinging people" with ingrained "antipathy to people who aren't like them," treated a wave of immigrants in New Orleans. It's well worth reading.

Was Senator Stevens a victim of election year misconduct by the Justice Department?

According to this report, Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska may have lost his Senate seat because of prosecutorial misconduct at his trial. One has to wonder whether this was another way to unseat a Republican senator. Time will tell whether Stevens' guilty verdict will be overturned, but it is very unusual for an FBI whistleblower to come forward alleging misconduct by his fellow agents after a trial. One of the witnesses also recanted his testimony. Incredibly, the whistleblower alleges that one of the FBI agents engaged in the same illegal behavior that Sen. Stevens was on trial for.

What's after gay marriage?

According to Mark Steyn, a thousand people recently signed a petition in Tokyo demanding the right to marry cartoon characters.

"I am no longer interested in three dimensions. I would even like to become a resident of the two-dimensional world," explained Taichi Takashita. "Therefore, at the very least, would it be possible to legally authorize marriage with a two-dimensional character?"

As it appears inevitable that the courts will legislate the "right" to gay marriage, it also appears inevitable that "marriage" will lose any real meaning. Once gay marriage has been sanctioned, it will be impossible for courts to deny the right to "marry" anything or anyone(s) according to the same definition of "rights."

Polygamous marriage is already allowed in Britain for Muslims, with multiple wives receiving their welfare checks. In Israel, a woman was reported to have married a dolphin. It's only a matter of time before group marriages - 10 guys marrying 37 women and their dogs and cats, forming one big, happy family.

Once the definition of marriage has been expanded beyond its traditional and ancient definition, there will be no limit to "marriage". Therefore the only substantive purposes of marriage will be to establish the right to share property and to receive benefit checks. Imagine the healthcare and pension benefits for the family of an employee married to however many people, animals, plants, and cartoon characters. Presumably the cartoon characters won't require much healthcare, but how about pensions?

Will healthcare plans have to cover the services of tree surgeons once people have the right to marry their gardens? And why limit marriage to people at all? Perhaps lakes should be allowed to marry their shores.

Interesting fact about CO2 levels in the atmosphere

In this article, prominent scientist and global warming skeptic Princeton University physicist Dr. Will Happer says that average global CO2 levels have been 3 times the current level since the advent of multicellular life in the Cambrian era 500 million years ago.

According to Happer, "life on earth flourished with these higher levels of carbon dioxide".

“I have spent a long research career studying physics that is closely related to the greenhouse effect, for example, absorption and emission of visible and infrared radiation, and fluid flow,” Happer said this week. “Fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science. The earth's climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past,” he added.

Important dates in history

This post in the blog Conservative History Journal is a useful reminder of the importance of learning significant dates in history. A result of economic ignorance

One result of the left's ignorant assault on American corporations is that they're leaving the country. As this article points out, international companies don't have to be based in this country, and since Congress is busy demonizing them, they're heading for friendlier environments. Apparently the left believes the way to achieve a better economy is to force American companies to leave, and replace their jobs with welfare programs.

Another depression due to government bailouts?

Thomas Sowell is one of the most astute economists in America, and has written a number of books that are well worth reading. In this piece, he shows that the massive unemployment of the depression in the 1930's occurred well after the stock market crash, as an apparent result of clumsy government attempts to "rescue" the economy. Further government efforts led to years of economic hardship.

Many of us can remember the "stagflation" of the 1970's, which was a result of more government "stimulus" efforts, and which caused immense economic pain, including 20% interest rates.

One definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over, expecting to achieve a different result. We are now trying the same approach that has failed massively twice before in hopes of achieving a different result. The political class obviously hasn't learned from history, and is now in the process of repeating it.

Beautiful pictures

The beauty of nature is always a source of wonder, and astronomy provides its share of amazing images. The Bad Astronomy blog has posted a top 10 list of images for 2008. There are some incredible shots in the group, including this one of galaxy NGC 7331. Hi-res versions can be downloaded. Definitely worth enjoying.

On the British failure in Iraq

Those who haven't followed the Iraq war closely may not realize that the British mission to pacify and stabilize the city of Basra in the south turned out to be a complete failure. Now Britain is about to depart in virtual disgrace after the Iraqi army, supported by American troops, ousted the Shiite militias who were in control of the city, while the British hunkered down outside in their encampments.

Michael Portillo, a former Tory cabinet minister writes this about the humiliation Britain has endured in Iraq. Many wonder if the US can count on any effective support from any European country in future conflicts. Britain did the most to try to help in Iraq, but ultimately failed.

It's sad to see a modern version of ancient Rome turning into Italy.

A great read

I just finished reading Nature's Destiny: How the Laws of Biology Reveal Purpose in the Universe by Michael Denton, and it's a wonderful exploration of the incredible complexity and integration of life on earth. It's a bit technical, but not beyond anyone who's had high school biology and physics. If some of it gets a little thick, just skim past it - it's worth the effort. By the end of it, Darwin looks to be on pretty shaky ground. It was published in 1998, but is still available, and will definitely expand your awareness of just how amazing the physical underpinnings of life are.

Another debunking of anthropogenic global warming

This is another well written and relatively concise demolition of anthropogenic (human caused) global warming (AGW) theory. It's worth reading to refresh your memory about some of the problems with the theory and the history of its promotion to the public. Since it's on the Australian Broadcasting Corp website, which is amazing in itself, it refers to Oz's current Prime Minister Kevin Rudd as simply "Rudd".

Mark Steyn again

One reviewer wrote about Mark Steyn's book America Alone that he found himself in the strange position of chuckling while contemplating doom. This is another of Mark's witty dirges. No writer today is funnier writing about serious topics.

Comparison of Democratic to Republican corruption

Someone has actually counted the corruption cases against both Democrats and Republicans. Guess what, the Dems win, by a 3 to 1 margin. Anyone surprised? Here's the link.

Michael Totten and Michael Yon on the Iraqi war

There are two citizen journalists in Iraq who've run rings around the MSM crowd over there. Michael Yon and Michael Totten are the Ernie Pyles of the Iraq war. They've been with the troops in the field while the MSM'ers were filing reports from a bar in the Green Zone.

Anything they write is worth reading, but this piece from Michael Totten is a sobering view of what is likely to happen when Americans withdraw from the cities next year. On the other hand, this from Michael Yon is a great deal more upbeat. They're both worth a read, and it's worth monitoring these two superb journalists.

Canadian "Human Rights Commission" gives Islamic hate a pass

For those of you who haven't followed the incredible goings on north of the border, free speech is basically dead there. They have these laughingly misnamed government bodies called "Human Rights Commissions" which are charged with enforcing politically correct speech. They make up their own laws, rule that truth is not a defense, and seriously harass anyone who disagrees with their political slant.

After persecuting conservative columnist Mark Steyn for running excerpts from his best selling book America Alone in a Canadian magazine, and many other conservatively tinged writers and publications for voicing opinions that no one would think unusual on this side of the border, they have just turned down the prosecution of a Muslim for publishing a hate filled rant calling for the extermination of gays, among many other similar views.

According to their ruling, "the extracts that identify groups on the basis of prohibited grounds of discrimination (homosexuals, lesbians, Christians, Jews) do not seem to promote “hatred” or “contempt”". Apparently calling for a group's extermination doesn't promote hatred or contempt as long as the caller is a Muslim.

While prosecuting people for exercizing the right of free speech shouldn't be allowed in any event, it's telling that these commissions are only prosecuting politically incorrect speech, while leaving true hate speech alone if it's uttered by members of politically protected groups.

It's a measure of the gulf between the US and Canada, that this sort of commission could exist at all there. We tend to believe that most of the West still has freedom of speech, but suppression of politically incorrect speech is becoming the norm in much of the western world. Among many such examples, in Australia several years ago, a Christian minister was jailed for using hate speech. His crime? Quoting the Quran during a sermon.

If you're not up to speed on the suppression of free speech in Canada, you really should read this article.

FBI illegally paid agents for all waking hours in Iraq

What a surprise - one of our chief law enforcement agencies has been illegally paying its agents for all waking hours while in Iraq, running up massive overtime, and even shifting the work week to start on Sunday so they could collect additional Sunday pay. Agents uniformly submitted time sheets for 16 hours a day, 7 days a week, in order to collect an extra $10,000 a month. They billed for time attending cocktail parties and watching movies, among other "work". Apparently they were encouraged by FBI management to do this, and none of the money is expected to be returned.

This is an egregious example of federal employees ripping the rest of us off, but it is far from an isolated case. But because this is the federal government, and the FBI at that, absolutely nothing is going to be done about it.

Interesting facts about the 2008 election

Professor Joseph Orson of Hemline University School of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the 2008 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Democrats: 20; Republicans: 30

Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000; Republicans: 2,427,000

Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million; Republicans: 143 million

Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2; Republicans: 2.1

Professor Olson adds, "In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens.

Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in rented or government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "Governmental dependency" phase.

How dropping oil prices are hurting our enemies

This article by Dick Morris highlights the negative effects the recent drop in oil prices are having on our adversaries around the world. While they are undoubtedly and deservedly hurting, one wonders if this will induce any of them into committing desperate acts to try to cover for their failures.

Statistics on media bias

Here's a study by The Center for Media and Public Affairs at George Mason University showing the differences in MSM coverage for Democrats and Republicans. It's no surprise, but it does document what (almost) everyone knows with real stats. The numbers support the thesis that the main problem Republicans face in connecting with the public is media bias.

Democratic and Republican transgressions are treated differently

Here's an excellent article by Victor Davis Hanson about the differing treatment of ethical and legal lapses by Republicans and Democrats. There's no question why this occurs - the MSM are the media arm of the Democratic Party, and will ignore, cover up, excuse, or minimize any Democrat's lapses to the best of their ability, while loudly and continuously braying about comparable Republican transgressions until the person has been destroyed politically.

One of the reasons campaign finance "reforms" benefit Democrats is the fact that they receive literally billions of dollars of political media support each year by this sort of assistance, which is not counted as the contribution it obviously is.

More details on the Mumbai attacks by members of The Religion of Peace

This is a graphic description by one of the victims of how terrorists rounded up restaurant patrons, then lined them against a wall and gunned them down. But this murderous attack, like the thousands of similar attacks by Muslims on random civilians over the past several decades, can't be blamed on Islam, because it's The Religion of Peace, right?

Economic results of the Pelosi Reid Congress

Here's a summary of the truly awful results of Democratic control of Congress over the past two years. Yet, because of media malfeasance, polls show most young voters didn't even know that Democrats have been in charge of Congress during this time of economic decline. One can only wonder how much worse it will get with enhanced Democratic majorities and the Presidency - or when voters will notice who's in charge.

Eric Holder's role in arranging clemency for FALN terrorists

Barack Obama's "change" includes appointing one of his terrorist-friendly friends to head the Justice Department, of all places. So the person who will be in charge of law enforcement is a man who circumvented the law to pardon Marc Rich, the notorious fugitive, as well as two Weather Underground terrorists, and to arrange clemency for Puerto Rican FALN terrorists who murdered 6 people and wounded 80 during a bombing campaign in the 1970's and '80's.

One has to hope that Republicans on the Senate confirmation panel illuminate these disgraceful episodes to the best of their ability.

The car plant of the future

This fascinating video shows a state-of-the-art automobile plant owned by Ford in Brazil. It also shows why the UAW is killing auto manufacturing by the Big 3 in the United States. Of course, the non-union plants in America owned by Japanese competitors are doing fine. No bailout of American auto manfacturers can do more than delay the inevitable as long as the UAW calls the shots.

The morality of liberalism/socialism

Here's a good distillation of the morality of the liberal/socialist program of taking money from some people to give to others. In summary, it's a form of slavery. Forcing others to work as tax slaves for your favorite charities is a completely false "virtue". Not surprisingly, studies have shown that conservatives donate more of their own money to charity than liberals.

What's needed to stop the Somali pirates

The level of piracy off the coast of Somalia is completely out of control, and no one seems to have a plan to stop it. There is really only one force that can stop these criminals in their tracks - an American aircraft carrier.

The problem is the distances involved. By the time an attack is underway, it takes too much time for naval ships or helicopters to reach the scene. Once the hijackers are on board, they've got the upper hand and it's too late. The only forces that could reach a hijacking in progress in time are supersonic jets from a carrier stationed in the area. They could sink any pirate ship or boat before the pirates can board their target.

The American navy should put a carrier off the Somali coast until pirates there learn some painful lessons.

Kudlow and Mundell on a real economic stimulus package

Lawrence Kudlow is one of the most engaging, yet knowledgeable, economists writing for the general public today. Here's a report on his conversation with Nobel Prize winning economist Robert Mundell about how to stimulate the economy. It's really unfortunate that this sort of serious discussion can't be found in the MSM, but how could a journalism major have a serious discussion about economics?

The blog entry this link refers to will get pushed down by newer entries, so read it before it goes away. Kudlow's blog is must reading for people interested in real economics, as opposed to the inane, ignorant fluff that most of the media "report" on the subject.

Eric Holder - Obama AG is a terrible choice

Read this article to see how Holder was complicit in some of the worst Clinton abuses. He's about as bad an attorney general choice as can be made. Not surprising.

Video voter survey shows media's slant

You have to watch this video of voters being asked simple questions about the candidates.

Another example of media bias trumping business survival

For any who still believe left wing media bias is just a business decision, this example of a newspaper shilling for Obama in a conservative state while going down the drain financially is an illustration of the lengths some of the media will go to support leftist causes at the expense of their own survival.

One can only hope they reach the end of their rope as soon as possible.

Another way for liberals to silence talk radio

While there has been much speculation about Democrats invoking the Unfairness Doctrine to suppress conservative talk radio, Obama's minions are planning another, more subtle but equally effective method to eliminate the one media venue where conservatives dominate. One has to hope this can be stopped.

What to do about liberal media bias

When conservatives worry about the difficulty “selling” the conservative message to the public, what we should be concerned about is that our message is getting filtered through a politically hostile media.

Imagine if the media were as conservative as it is liberal. Conservative viewpoints would get constant, sympathetic coverage, whereas liberal viewpoints would be suppressed, minimized, and treated with derision.

No matter what the merits are of the conservative points of view, they simply won’t be presented to the public fairly, accurately, or substantively by the liberal press. So the problem for conservatives isn’t the message, it’s the messenger.

Of course, when challenged about their obvious liberal bias, media personalities affect surprise and indignation that their objectivity has been questioned. But this is just for show. They and everyone else except extreme left wing loons know that the media overwhelmingly favors the Democrats and liberal causes.

So what can be done about this? It’s obviously not an easy problem to solve, but the first step has to be recognition that media bias is the fundamental problem that conservatives face. No problem can be solved if it isn’t identified.

One thing we have to do is stop providing substantial financial support to the liberal media. How many of us subscribe to Time, Newsweek, The New York Times or our local liberal paper? Sure, these organizations provide much interesting, useful information aside from their liberal slant. But if conservatives aren’t willing to make the small sacrifice of cancelling subscriptions to media organizations that sell the Democratic Party line every day, why should we expect them to change? They’ve got the best of both worlds – receiving conservative financial support for selling liberal ideas.

So a first step in challenging media bias is for conservatives to shun all liberal media outlets, from NBC to Time Magazine. Most of the left wing media are already suffering from declining sales and ratings. This has to be accelerated. When cancelling subscriptions, send a letter or email telling the organization why you’re cancelling - that you’re tired of their left wing bias. Look for the names of the publisher and managing editor, and make sure they get a copy. If the publication is owned by a larger company, copy that company CEO. If conservatives aren’t willing to take this small step, we have only ourselves to blame for our problem.

A corollary is for conservatives to support balanced or conservative media sources. The ratings and financial strength of conservative media have to be enhanced to challenge liberal organizations. If you’re not familiar with conservative alternatives to the liberal press, look around. You’ll find lots of alternative magazines like National Review, The Weekly Standard, etc., newspapers like the Wall Street Journal, Investors’ Business Daily, and The Washington Times, and great blogs like Powerline, Hugh Hewitt, Michelle Malkin, and The American Thinker, among many others. For TV news, most conservatives watch FOX these days not because it’s conservative, but because it’s balanced like the rest of the media is supposed to be.

A second step is to withdraw any advertising over which you have influence from liberal organizations. Not everyone is in a position to do this, but many are. Again, support conservative outlets where possible.

Third, encourage your conservative friends to do the same. Point out how we are financially supporting the political opposition, and suggest alternatives.

Finally, we conservatives ourselves are another potential source of information to combat liberal spin. Keep yourself informed so that you can make intelligent points in conversation with your liberal friends. If you feel uninformed about a subject, read up on it using conservative sources. The more facts you have at your fingertips, the better you will be able to counter typical liberal positions when your friends bring them up. Copy informative articles to share with friends, both liberal and conservative. Don’t be overbearing, but conservatives have the facts on our side, so don’t be shy about using them.

Media bias is the main problem for conservatives to solve. There are other ideas out there to confront it, but we conservatives have to focus on this problem, or we’ll end up like countries such as Britain or Canada, where the left has such a stranglehold on media access that true conservatives are almost shut out of the political process.

NASA's James Hansen caught in huge blunder

As many of you know, James Hansen is NASA's chief "scientist", aka polemicist, for global warming. He's the media's go-to guy for alarmist global warming quotes, and has suggested that sceptics be tried for "crimes" for disagreeing with him. He's also in charge of one of the 4 major temperature records used by the IPCC and others - naturally the warmest record of the 4. So it was major news when NASA announced that October this year was the warmest October in history.

Then a few curious bloggers got to work, and discovered that NASA had mistakenly used September figures for October, in effect duplicating September's numbers. NASA has had a long and dubious history of using questionable numbers and "adjustments", and has been forced to admit major errors before, so one can only wonder how long NASA and Dr. Hansen will continue to retain any credibility. They have become a serious embarrassment to the American scientific establishment. It will be interesting to see how long the MSM will continue to cover for them.

Check it out here.

Media bias quotes

Here's an excellent collection of notable quotes on liberal media bias by mostly liberal media people. It's worth a look.

Michelle on Hank Paulson and the "Bailout"

The indefatigable Michelle Malkin unloads on Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson and on the notion that bureaucrats know more than the market about how to manage the economy. An excellent piece.

UAW forklift operators make $103,000

And they're underpaid at the "Big 3". The average wage, according to this analysis, is a yummy $73 per hour, which works out to about $146,000 per year. And at least 12,000 of them don't even have to pretend to work. Their contract specifies they get paid for DOING NOTHING.

The UAW has done a great job of jacking up wages and benefits at American auto companies to astronomical levels, but they're worried that they've just about bled their golden geese to death, so they'd like taxpayers to supply the financial blood they require.

Does anyone think the Obamessiah would offend the UAW by refusing its "request"?

The word "British" banned by a council in Britain

When you think political correctness and leftist self loathing have gone about as far as they can, they go further. Now it's "offensive" for British people to use the word "British", according to a local council in Britain. Read about it here, and weep.

The real reason the Democrats won

There has been much bloviating and gnashing of teeth about the reasons for Republican losses in the election. There is really only one primary reason for the defeat - the newly overt alliance between the liberal mainstream media and the Obama campaign. All other factors are subordinate to this one.

Consider the subprime mortgage crisis. It is clear that the main reason for this debacle is the fact that Congress and government regulators forced Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and the banks to make loans they would not otherwise have made. The bad loans were then packaged by Fannie and Freddie for purchase by the other organizations which got into trouble once Fannie and Freddie became insolvent. Fannie and Freddie were both established by the government.

Thus, it was regulation itself, and not the lack of it, that caused this meltdown. Democratic politicians like Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Chuck Schumer resisted efforts to reform these regulations before it was too late. Barack Obama himself was somehow the 2nd largest recipient of Fannie and Freddie political donations, even though he was only a junior senator.

If the politicians who had resisted reforming Fannie and Freddie were Republican, does anyone doubt that fact would have been trumpeted to the heavens by the left wing press? If John McCain had been one of the biggest recipients of Fannie and Freddie cash, wouldn't the media have made that point on a daily, if not hourly, basis?

Thus, a problem caused by regulation largely imposed by Democrats was reported in such a way that lack of regulation by the Republican administration is thought by the public to have been the cause. Because of inaccurate and misleading media coverage, people voted for Democrats who were responsible for the destruction of trillions of dollars of Americans' savings. When blame for such huge problems can be shifted from Democrats to Republicans by the media, is it any wonder the Republicans lost?

Other examples of major media bias abound. Consider the case of Sarah Palin's $150,000 budget for clothes. This was reported for days as a major issue, while Democratic expenditures like the more than $800,000 Obama spent on vote fraud specialist ACORN were completely ignored.

While Palin's clothes budget was being scrutinized, the media had no interest in investigating Obama's ties with former terrorists or the fact that his campaign had turned off automated safeguards against fraudulent donations, which fueled his enormous fundraising campaign.

If the media had played this election down the middle, it is doubtful Obama could have been nominated, much less elected. Imagine if McCain or any other Republican had associated with the despicable people Obama is connected with. The media wouldn't have allowed any Republican to have a significant political career after these sorts of associations were discovered.

The examples one could provide of media bias during this campaign are almost endless. While McCain had his own problems, Obama had far more, which either weren't reported, were minimized, or were excused by his allies in the media.

The constant barrage of media slant was more than enough to cost McCain and the Republicans the 4% of total votes needed to change the outcome of this election. Evan Thomas, assistant managing editor of Newsweek, said during the Kerry/Bush campaign that liberal media bias was worth 15% of the vote, and media support for Obama has become much more overt since then.

The main question facing Republicans is what to do about this state of affairs. Those like Sarah Palin who favor a conservative agenda can expect to be subjected to a nonstop assault by the liberal press. People who get their news from these organizations will be affected by the slant, even if they know the media is biased. Conservative Republicans will have a very difficult time winning elections unless the media alliance with the Democratic party can somehow be neutralized.

What the Republican Party and individuals can do to help redress this situation will be the topic of a subsequent post.

Info on CO2 and ocean acidification

As it has become increasingly apparent that worldwide temperatures are falling, in contradiction to global warmer theory, a new claim is being circulated. It is asserted that increasing CO2 levels in the atmosphere will cause acidification of the oceans, leading to the death of ocean life.

The problem with this theory is that the oceans are substantially alkaline, so it would take a tremendous amount of CO2 to drop ocean pH below 7, which is the point at which it becomes slightly acidic. This post points out that burning all the fossil fuel in the world wouldn't be able to do that.

Obama's chief of staff was Freddie Mac director in 2002

Why is this no surprise? Fannie and Freddie were Democratic Party playgrounds with pols and money shuttling back and forth. Ever wonder why Obama was the 2nd highest recipient of Freddie and Fannie donations as a junior senator?

Household windmills may consume more power than they produce

This comes from an email from Paul Biggs ( to the excellent Greenie Watch blog. While windmills are an absurd way to produce electricity, this shows they may be even more ridiculous than I thought.

"The October edition of Which? Magazine [in the UK] reported on domestic wind turbines in an article entitled 'Wind turbine blows cold.' Which? installed one in a house and monitored it from December 2007 to June 2008. The result was that it used more electricity than it generated. This is because the turbine includes an "inverter" that converts the energy into electricity to go into the mains, and the inverter needs power which it draws whether the wind is turning the turbine or not. If the 'greens' want to 'save the planet' with domestic wind turbines, then they will have to make sure that they live somewhere very windy. Given the energy used and costs involved in manufacturing, installing, maintaining, plus eventual decommissioning - there may not be anywhere that is windy enough!"

Letter from an Iraqi to Christopher Hitchens

Most of you know Christopher Hitchens as an anti-religious zealot who usually writes well on other political topics. This letter from an Iraqi friend of Hitchens questions the reasoning behind Hitchens' endorsement of Obama. It covers a number of points about the nature of Saddam's regime and American foreign policy. It's a good read here.

Obama as a 2 dimensional politician

Mark Steyn is a great wordsmith, and his latest column on the two-dimensionality of Obama is worth reading. Key paragraph:

"In his Wednesday-night infomercial, Obama declared that his 'fundamental belief' was that 'I am my brother’s keeper.' Back in Kenya, his brother lives in a shack on 12 bucks a year. If Barack is his brother’s keeper, why couldn’t he send him a ten-dollar bill and nearly double the guy’s income? The reality is that Barack Obama assumes the government should be his brother’s keeper, and his aunt’s keeper. Why be surprised by that? For 20 years in Illinois, Obama has marinated in the swamps of the Chicago political machine and the campus radicalism of William Ayers and Rashid Khalidi. In such a world, the redistributive urge is more or less a minimum entry qualification."

Obama wants to bankrupt the coal industry

Here's audio of Obama telling the SF Chronicle he plans to bankrupt the coal industry if elected. Not surprisingly, the Chronicle failed to mention that in the article derived from this interview.

Obama's plan to end private health care

This article spells out how Obama's healthcare plan would lead to a government takeover of the healthcare system. So now we can exchange America's 63% 5 year cancer survival rate for Britain's 45% survival. Hope you don't get cancer - or anything else. The same government that can't stop people from walking across our borders or find them while they're here will now be in charge of your medical treatment.

Iraqi vet's video endorsement of McCain gets big audience

An Iraqi vet who hasn't been in politics has made the surprise video endorsement hit of this campaign season with over 11 million views. Check it out.

Obama's aunt living illegally in the US - in public housing

Why isn't this surprising? An illegal alien aunt of Obama living in America at taxpayer expense - and Obama will probably claim he knew as little about this as he knew about Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, etc., etc. No doubt, she's also getting taxpayer supplied medical care. But, according to Obama, taxpayers aren't doing enough.

Obama's "new politics" includes massive fraudulent campaign contributions

The blogosphere has been reporting for some time now that the Obama money machine is fueled by untraceable contributions facilitated by the deliberate disabling of normal credit card checks by the Obama donation acceptance system. Just as Dems can't imagine that ACORN would fraudulently sign up dead voters, they also can't imagine that encouraging fraudulent contributions would lead to any actual fraud. How convenient.

Obama's "tax cuts" shifting downward

Obama's campaign is rapidly shifting downward the threshold of earnings subject to his "tax cuts" (after his huge tax increases by reversing the Bush tax cuts). First, his own campaign ads have dropped the threshold to $200k, and now his irrepressible VP candidate Joe Biden has been talking about $150k. That's a 40% reduction in income levels before the campaign is even over. Is anyone surprised?

Comparing the Bush economy to Europe

If you think lack of regulation and lower taxes have hurt the US economy, check this comparison of the US with the far more regulated, higher taxed European economies. Of course, you'd never know how well the US has done by listening to the Obamedia.

Bill Ayers wanted to kill 25 million Americans

During his Weather Underground days, Obama buddy William Ayers said that it would be necessary to kill about 25 million Americans in extermination camps after the revolution. This would have been consistent with the mass killings carried out by Marxists in countries they did manage to control, so it is perhaps not surprising. This interview also reveals that Ayers specifically ordered that bombs they made contain shrapnel to cause maximum casualties. What prior American presidential candidate has had friends like this?

Obama says he chose his friends carefully - Marxists

In this damning admission from his book, Dreams From My Father, Obama says he chose his friends carefully in college, among them, Marxist professors.

Christian vices are socialist virtues

Socialism was the first great secular religion to challenge God centered religions beginning in the 19th century. (Environmentalism has become the second such secular religion.) Like previous religions, socialism provides an all encompassing worldview, complete with its own set of goals, virtues, and vices. It's interesting how socialism's virtues are almost the same list as Chritianity's vices.

For example, love of material goods is a vice in Christianity, but the very foundation of socialist theology. The only important way to analyze the human condition, according to socialism, is based on materialism.

Envy is considered a major vice in Christianity, but is elevated to a major virtue in socialism. In socialist theology, you have every right, in fact, an obligation, to be angry about anyone having more material wealth than you do.

Theft is considered a sin in Christianity, but is a virtue in socialism. Taking wealth from people who have more than you do, by force if necessary, is one of the foundation principles of socialism.

Hate is considered one of the worst sins in Christianity, but it is considered a virtue in socialism to hate the "rich", who may be robbed or killed by virtuous socialists to achieve "social justice."

Of course, murder is a fundamental sin in Christianity, but is a virtuous method of redistributing wealth and achieving a new "social order" according to hardcore socialists.

These are not just theoretical differences. Socialists have proven through the blood soaked history of the 20th century that they are willing to rob and kill tens of millions to achieve their paradise on earth.

In America, which supposedly supports separation of church and state, the new secular religions of socialism and environmentalism are exempt from this rule. Only these new religions are allowed to overtly influence and direct state policy. The environmental religion has even acquired a government department, the EPA, to enforce its beliefs. So we now have an official state religion. Socialism, however, has as much, if not more power, as the religion of government.

Both religions are cooperating to tear down our remaining freedom from government control. The process is already well along, and within the lifetime of today's children, we may only have the freedom to do as we are told. Moreover, the new religions will insist that the silly virtues of Christianity be replaced by their new, "improved" virtues.

According to Philadelphia Enquirer, white people shouldn't be allowed to vote

Check this incredible column in a major US paper, seriously advocating that white people shouldn't be allowed to vote. The problem with the left is that, just when you think they couldn't get any nastier or more hateful, they do. As Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot proved, there really is no limit to the repression the left will engage in to achieve "social justice."

William Ayers' was a communist

William Ayers wrote a book calling himself a communist and advocating communist victory in Vietnam. The communist victory that ensued caused the murder of over 2 million Cambodians and Vietnamese, yet Ayers has said repeatedly that he has no regrets and only wishes he could have done more. And this is a man, among other similar people, who Obama chose to develop a close association with. And Obama talks about McCain's judgement. Apparently, Obama thinks association with Ayers reflects good judgement. What do you think?

The government wins by failing

When businesses fail to satisfy their customers, they produce financial losses, and if they don't improve their performance, they go out of business. The government, on the other hand, acquires more wealth and power by failing to fulfill its responsibilities. That's one of the main differences between government and business.

It is remarkable that the two current crises were both caused by federal government action, yet the government will become far more powerful as a result. Both the critical dependence on foreign oil, and the financial meltdown, were caused by the federal government itself.

In the case of the energy crisis, it was caused by the federal government's suppression of virtually all forms of domestic energy production. New offshore oil drilling? Prohibited. New Alaskan oil production? Prohibited. New nuclear power plants? Prohibited. New coal fired power plants? Prohibited. New oil refineries? Prohibited. Significant oil shale production? Prohibited.

Thirty plus years ago the federal Department of Energy was created to "solve" the energy crisis which began in the 1970's. Tens of billions of dollars have been spent. Have they solved it? The country is much more dependent on foreign oil than it was then. What is the result? Obama is talking about taking more money from the energy industry to give to the government to "solve" the problem.

If the government had allowed the energy industry to produce the ample energy resources we have for the past 30 years, we wouldn't have a shortage today. But because it has utterly failed to solve the problem itself, the government is now spending more and more on ridiculous schemes which have no chance whatever of reducing our dependence on foreign oil. Government has failed, but has gained power as a result.

Government regulation forced Fannie, Freddie, and the banks to make subprime loans which are at the heart of the current financial crisis. Yet, with the help of a compliant media, the government has turned this colossal failure into an opportunity to increase its power over the financial sector.

These are just two examples of a general principle that government wins by failing. Government agencies don't get increased funding when things are going well. They only get increases when there is a problem, usually of their own making. So if you want failure, support government efforts to take over additional areas of the economy.

Health care? If the government takes over, you can expect our 5 year cancer survival rate (for men) to change from the American level of 63% to the British national health care rate of 45%. Just think, 1 out of 3 people who survives cancer here, dies in England. Get ready for this "improvement."

With Obama likely to win the coming election, we can expect more government failure, and more government power as a result.

MSM viewership fades

After dispensing with any pretense of impartiality, it's not surprising that network viewer numbers are in freefall. Why would any Republican watch programs which are just advertisements for Democrats?

Obama was affiliated with the Democratic Socialists of America

This blog entry documents Obama's relationship with the DSA. His socialist ties are getting clearer and clearer, yet his MSM supporters act as if calling him a socialist is just a smear. Facts are apparently smears if they are inconvenient for a Demcratic candidate.

A Democratic newspaper columnist calls on the MSM to report the truth about the subprime mortgage crisis

It's been obvious to Republicans for a long time that most of the MSM has long since abandoned any pretense of objectivity or fairness in reporting the news. Now a Democratic columnist has challenged the MSM to report the truth about the financial meltdown, and questioned the ethics and honesty of their reporting to date.

It's a very good column.

Iran's buddy, Germany

From Powerline blog, "Germany's ambassador to Iran, Herbert Honsowitz, has told the Iranian government not to worry about Berlin's announcement that it will reduce trade with Iran. Honsowitz noted that German companies have utilized the United Arab Emirates as a middleman for more than $4 billion in trade. He added: 'At the present time the Economic Affairs Section of the German Embassy is working on taking the necessary measures to preserve and improve economic relations between the private sector in Germany and Iran.'"

It's incredible that a country with Germany's history is actively helping a government that promises to destroy Israel and wipe out the Jewish people.

Great Critique of "Global Warming"

This is an open letter to John McCain which presents the arguments against anthropogenic global warming as well as any article I've seen recently. It's long and detailed, but covers most of the issues very well. It's an education and well worth reading.

Did Barack and Ayers share an office for 3 years?

Far from being just "a guy in my neighborhood", William Ayers apparently worked at the same address as Barack Obama for 3 years, and Obama funded Ayers' activities to the tune of nearly $2,000,000.

As usual, blogs are doing the investigative work while the MSM is busy worshipping at The Messiah's feet.

An article tying ACORN and Obama to the subprime mortgage meltdown

This New York Post article recounts ACORN's use of violent tactics to defend and expand the practice of subprime lending that is at the core of the current financial meltdown. It describes links between the ACORN thugs and prominent Democrats, including Obama, who worked for and channeled money to ACORN. So when a Democrat starts bleating about "the failure of capitalism", please remind him that, as usual, government regulation itself caused these massive losses, and that The Messiah is deeply involved with an organization that is one of the primary instigators of this regulatory failure.

Thanks to Bill Tudor for forwarding this one.

Some great pics of the sun

Unless you're an astronomer, these might be the most spectacular images of the sun you've ever seen. They're stunning.

Video of John McCain's speech at the Al Smith dinner

Apparently the Al Smith memorial dinner in New York is a major tradition because both John and Barack showed up, along with Hillary, Michael Bloomberg, etc. Both McCain and Obama gave humorous speeches. In my humble opinion, McCain's was funnier - in fact, it was surprisingly good, considering his usual communications skills. If you haven't checked it out, part 1 is here:

And part 2 is here

It's worth watching.

Did Bill Ayers help Obama write "Dreams From My Father"?

This article compares Obama's writing and history to Bill Ayers' and finds interesting parallels. It's worth reading.

Hawaii dropping child universal healthcare

The first state universal child healthcare plan is being dropped because of soaring expenses. In a preview of what's to come with Obama's healthcare plan, children were dropping out of private healthcare plans to join the state program. Incredibly, the state apparently hadn't anticipated this, so expenses began to skyrocket.

A national list of ACORN vote fraud activities

This link comes from a gay conservative blog, in case you didn’t know there were any. It provides a nationwide list of reports on fraudulent voter registration activities by ACORN, Obama’s former employer, and the organization his campaign paid $800,000+ to “get out the vote”. If you’ll recall, Obama was asked about his association with ACORN in the last debate, and simply lied about it.

Feds blocking more American oil production

It's been clear for quite a while that the only reason America is dependent on foreign oil is suppression of domestic production by agencies of the federal government. In this case, the liberal 9th circuit court of appeals is preventing Shell Oil from exploring leases it has paid for off the north coast of Alaska by the simple expedient of failing to rule on a lawsuit filed by the usual environmental organizations to block the exploration.

This is one of many examples of environmental groups teaming up with sympathetic judges to block energy production. So we can look forward to much higher energy prices and dependence on our enemies for energy supplies, thanks to our own government, acting in concert with members of The Green Religion.

Left wing justice department lawyers target GOP activist for legal activity

Many have expressed concern that an Obama administration would misuse the Justice Department and other federal agencies to suppress conservative political speech. Apparently, liberal lawyers in the Justice Department aren't waiting for the Messiah to begin the suppression. They have indicted a former Republican congressional candidate in California for supposedly "misleading investigators" about sending a factual letter to Latino voters reminding them that only citizens are allowed to vote. This is a clear effort to encourage vote fraud by illegal aliens. As usual, Bush Justice Department management is asleep at the switch.

State mandating cuts in electricity usage

A preview of what an Obama administration might do to reduce American energy usage has been made into law in Pennsylvania. There, electric utilities are required to cut their customers' electricity consumption in the next several years or face big fines. There is no way this can be done without raising electricity prices - just what struggling families and businesses need.

This is part of the Democrats' overall strategy to reduce American wealth by strangling our energy supply. Why would they do this? Because they're believers in The Green Religion, into which many socialists have morphed.

These kinds of programs - and there are more and more lurking under the media radar - make a mockery of the left's ostentatious concern for the poor. Raising energy prices hurts the poor the most.

The best current poll

This IBD/TIPP poll was the closest to the actual vote in 2004, and this version shows the internals.

24,000 Ineligible Felons Given Ballots in Washington

What's even more interesting is that the state computer system set up to catch illegal voters was explicitly programmed not to catch these illegal voters. The state's excuse? "It was too difficult to verify their status." Want another reason? Most felons are Democrats.

An example of absentee ballot vote fraud in Ohio

The indefatigable Michelle Malkin has the story of a group of leftist activists who don't live in Ohio receiving absentee ballots at the same phony address. Multiply this example by thousands in states around the country to see the result of lax registration standards and expanded vote by mail practices. Our democracy may soon achieve the same legitimacy as democratic paragons like Robert Mugabe and Hugo Chavez.

More Euro Green Insanity

Just when you thought devotees of The Green Religion couldn't get more ridiculous, they come up with something even wackier. Now, before doing plant research in Switzerland, researchers must do a study on whether the research harms the plant's "dignity". They have to show that the research won't "disturb the vital functions or lifestyle" of the plants.

This would be hilarious if it weren't for the fact that similarly vacuous Green concerns have already led to the deaths of millions of people.

Democratic vote fraud ramping up in Ohio

There really isn't much reason to believe that national elections are honestly conducted any more. Blatant vote fraud schemes are proliferating like weeds after a spring rain. None are more flagrant than the scheme hatched by the Ohio Democratic Secretary of State to allow same day registration and voting without checking any ID or proof of residency.

The Obama campaign plans to bus thousands of people to register and vote without anyone knowing who they are or where they live. The writer of this article spoke to one "homeless" man who had been bussed in to vote, who was taking a bus back to Chicago.

This same day voting scheme was approved even though the Ohio state constitution explicitly requires a 30 day period between registration and voting. Her rationale? Thirty days would elapse before the votes were counted. So if the Democrats win, we won't know whether they really won, or whether they just stole the election. If it's close, you can bet on the latter.

Another reason to homeschool

Public schools are getting less and less subtle in their left wing indoctrination efforts. A Wisconsin 8th grade English "Literature" book has a 15 page advertisement for Barak Obama, and nothing on his campaign opponents.

Another example of ACORN vote fraud

Via Powerline blog, a CNN news report that the Obama affiliated organization ACORN turned in 5,000 voter registrations in Indiana, of which the first 2,100 examined turned out to be 100% fraudulent. This is only one of many examples of this kind of thing with ACORN. As this organization is linked with the Obama campaign and the Democratic party, this is simply the organization the Dems use to engage in massive vote fraud, while preserving plausible deniability that it's an inherent part of their strategy to win elections.

John Bolton on the North Korean Nuclear Talks

Former UN Ambassador John Bolton sees a lot not to like about the Bush administration's decision to take North Korea off the list of state sponsors of terrorism.

A subprime mortgage crisis timeline

Presented below is an excerpt of an email received from Cindy Carter:

The following is a condensation of a series from the Investor's Business Daily explaining "What Caused the Loan Crisis":

1977: Pres. Jimmy Carter signs the Community Reinvestment Act into Law. The law pressured financial institutions to extend home loans to those who would otherwise not qualify.

The Premise: Home ownership would improve poor and crime-ridden communities and neighborhoods in terms of crime, investment, jobs, etc. Results: Statistics bear out that it did not help.

How did the government get so deeply involved in the housing market? Answer: Bill Clinton wanted it that way. 1992: Republican representative Jim Leach (IO) warned of the danger that Fannie and Freddie were changing from being agencies of the public at large to money machines for the principals and the stockholding few.

1993: Clinton extensively rewrote Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac's rules turning the quasi-private mortgage-funding firms into semi-nationalized monopoies dispensing cash and loans to large Democratic voting blocks and handing favors, jobs and contributions to political allies. This potent mix led inevitably to corruption and now the collapse of Freddie and Fannie.

1994: Despite warnings, Clinton unveiled his National Home-Ownership Strategy which broadened the CRA in ways Congress never intended.

1995: Congress was about to change from a Democrat majority to Republican, so Clinton ordered Robert Rubin's Treasury Dept to rewrite the rules. Under Rubin, Treasury reworked rules forcing banks to satisfy quotas for sub-prime and minority loans to get a satisfactory CRA rating. The rating was key to expansion or mergers for banks.

1997 - 1999: Clinton, bypassing Republicans, enlisted Andrew Cuomo, then Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, allowing Freddie and Fannie to get into the sub-prime market in a BIG way. Led by Rep. Barney Frank and Sen. Chris Dodd, Congress doubled down on the risk by easing capital limits and allowing them to hold just 2.5% of capital to back their investments vs. 10% for banks. Since they could borrow at lower rates than banks their enterprises boomed.

With incentives in place, banks poured billions in loans into poor communities, often "no doc", "no income", requiring no money down and no verification of income. Worse still was the cronyism: Fannie and Freddie became home to out-of work-politicians, mostly Clinton Democrats. 384 politicians got big campaign donations from Fannie and Freddie. Over $200 million had been spent on lobbying and political activities.

During the 1990's Fannie and Freddie enjoyed a subsidy of as much as $182 billion, most of it going to principals and shareholders, not poor borrowers as claimed. Did it work? Minorities made up 49% of the 12.5 million new homeowners but many of those loans have gone bad and the minority homeownership rates are shrinking fast.

1999: The new Treasury Secretary, Lawrence Summers, became alarmed at Fannie and Freddie's excesses. Congress held hearings the ensuing year but nothing was done because Fannie and Freddie had donated millions to key congressmen and radical groups, ensuring no meaningful changes would take place. "We manage our political risk with the same intensity that we manage our credit and interest rate risks," Fannie CEO Franklin Raines, a former Clinton official and current Barack Obama advisor, bragged to investors in 1999.

2000: Secretary Summers sent Undersecretary Gary Gensler to Congress seeking an end to the "special status". Democrats raised a ruckus as did Fannie and Freddie, headed by politically connected CEO's who knew how to reward and punish. "We think that the statements evidence a contempt for the nation's housing and mortgage markets" Freddie spokesperson Sharon McHale said. It was the last chance during the Clinton era for reform.

2001: Republicans try repeatedly to bring fiscal sanity to Fannie and Freddie but Democrats blocked any attempt at reform; especially Rep. Barney Frank and Sen.Chris Dodd who now run key banking committees and were huge beneficiaries of campaign contributions from the mortgage giants.

2003: Bush proposes what the NY Times called "the most significant regulatory overhaul in the housing finance industry since the savings and loan crisis a decade ago". Even after discovering a scheme by Fannie and Freddie to overstate earnings by $10.6 billion to boost their bonuses, the Democrats killed reform.

2005: Then Fed chairman Alan Greenspan warns Congress: "We are placing the total financial system at substantial risk". Sen. McCain, with two others, sponsored a Fannie/Freddie reform bill and said, "If congress does not act, American taxpayers will continue to be exposed to the enormous risk that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac pose to the housing market, the overall financial system and the economy as a whole". Sen. Harry Reid accused the GOP of trying to "cripple the ability of Fannie and Freddie to carry out their mission of expanding home ownership" The bill went nowhere.

2007: By now Fannie and Freddie own or guarantee over HALF of the $12 trillion US mortgage market. The mortgage giants, whose executive suites were top-heavy with former Democratic officials, had been working with Wall St. to repackage the bad loans and sell them to investors. As the housing market fell in '07, subprime mortgage portfolios suffered major losses. The crisis was on, though it was 15 years in the making.

2008: McCain has repeatedly called for reforming the behemoths, Bush urged reform 17 times. Still the media have repeated Democrats' talking points about this being a "Republican" disaster. A few Republicans are complicit but Fannie and Freddie were created by Democrats, regulated by Democrats, largely run by Democrats and protected by Democrats.

That's why taxpayers are now being told to pony up $700 billion.

Postscript: ACORN is one of the principle beneficiaries of Fannie/Freddie's slush funds. They are currently under indictment or investigation in many states. Barack Obama once served as one of their legal counsel.

Obama's welfare plan

Barak Obama has cleverly disguised a massive new welfare program as a "tax cut" plan by using refundable tax credits as welfare payments to millions of Americans who are not currently on welfare. Presumably, once hooked on these payments, recipients are likely to vote for whoever promises to increase these payments, ie, Democrats. The media, of course, is providing cover for this income redistribution scheme. This article lays out the ugly facts.

Evidence of McCain's effort to reform Fannie and Freddie

Via the excellent Powerline blog, this blog entry includes a copy of the letter McCain and 19 other Republican senators wrote in May of 2006 urging reform of Fannie and Freddie and warning of the danger posed by the lending practices of these institutions.

The two story outhouse

This was forwarded by Brian Hillam of the UK. There's nothing more to say.

Healthcare benefits exploding at the UN

One of the major unreported government ripoffs is the lavish pension and healthcare benefits which government employees have given themselves at the expense of the rest of us. It seems the UN has a slight problem getting member governments to pony up the billions needed to fund them. It has resolutely squeezed down on benefit levels to the point that employees now have to work a full 10 years - up from 5 years - to qualify for lifetime healthcare benefits. It makes one weep to think of the deprivation that UN bureaucrats must endure.,2933,434545,00.html

Barack Obama's citizenship in question

There have been a number of articles written questioning whether Obama is actually an American citizen qualified to run for President. The issue has been fueled by the apparent refusal of the Obama campaign to make available a certified copy of his birth certificate. The closest they have come is to post a supposed copy on the web, which authenticity has been disputed by document experts and at least one employee of the Hawaii hospital records department where he claims to have been born.

This may or may not amount to something, but the MSM, of course, won't do any serious investigative work. A Pennsylvania Democratic Party affiliated attorney has filed suit to try to compel Obama to release his birth certificate, which he is resisting. This link to a YouTube video provides some information regarding the issues.

Anniversary of Che's Death

In another example of the appalling job the media have done of informing people about what's really going on, the anniversary of Che Guevara’s death reminds us that to many people, Che was some kind of hero, not the vicious murderer he actually was. This article paints a picture of the real Che.

A completely dysfunctional mainstream media

One has to conclude that the system by which people get and process political information is completely dysfunctional. We’re in the midst of a financial panic caused by clear, identifiable actions at specific points in time by specific people. Yet the same people who caused the problem are trusted more by the American public on economic matters than other people who didn’t cause the problem, who predicted the problem, and who tried to fix the problem before the explosion.

We also know that the people who caused the problem have provided no solutions which make any economic sense, yet the American people are likely to give them the power to implement their make believe “solutions”.

We see the traditional nostrums of socialism trotted out once more – higher taxes and more regulation. Yet misguided regulation based on socialist ideology is the very source of the problem to be solved, and higher taxes on business have been proven to depress economic activity time and time again. We’ve been there and done that – more than once.

So what we face is an administration determined to administer Keynesian “pump priming” snake oil. Massive government spending increases, excuse me, “targeted investments”, will lead inevitably to a return of 1970’s style “stagflation,” that wonderful world which took 20% interest rates to break out of.

Populist “economics”, if one can call it that, has been tried so many times in so many countries that only a person with absolutely no understanding of the subject, or who calculates his personal benefits will exceed the general decline, could be taken in by it again. Yet that is where most people are.

Economic populism is more than just a slightly pernicious set of theories. Countries which have been in its clutches for long periods of time have experienced huge relative declines compared to more enlightened neighbors. It looks as if America is in for one of its periodic economic bleedings – an apt description paralleling the old medical “cure”, which was long a populist medical solution.

One would have hoped that economic knowledge would have reached the point by now where such obviously detrimental practices would be historical relics, but while socialists continue to worship false economic idols, they know exactly how to instill their brand of idol worship into each new generation of gullible students. They may not know anything about economics, but they know a lot about propaganda. And while the airheads in the MSM couldn’t rub two economic facts together to save their lives, they are experts in at least one thing – transmitting propaganda.

American CEOs fear Obama

74% of American CEOs say an Obama presidency would be disastrous for the country, according to Chief Executive Magazine.

“The stakes for this presidential election are higher than they’ve ever been in recent memory,” said Edward M. Kopko, CEO and Publisher of Chief Executive magazine. “We’ve been experiencing consecutive job losses for nine months now. There’s no doubt that reviving the job market will be a top priority for the incoming president. And job creating CEOs repeatedly tell us that McCain’s policies are far more conducive to a more positive employment environment than Obama’s.”

But, hey, what do they know?

Obama in his own words

Here, Obama speaks for himself.

Insanity in Britain

To understand where the left wants to take America, one only has to look at Europe. The insanity there is truly unbelievable.

Why Obama's leftism isn't a political problem

Most young people today haven't learned much, if anything, about the grotesque history of leftism, which is why Obama's leftist ties don't bother them, according to this author.

The last successful Democratic nominee to promise a "middle class tax cut"

As this article points out, Bill Clinton also promised to only raise taxes on "the rich", then raised them on almost everyone. But those who don't remember the left's history of reneging on promises not to raise your taxes continue to be fooled by the latest promises. As has been said, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time - and those are pretty good odds!"

Thanks to Elizabeth Mattson for forwarding this.

Obama was member of socialist New Party

Among Obama's many radical associations over the years, it appears he was a member of a splinter socialist political group called the New Party. Elements of the MSM, which might be termed The Obama Campaign Propaganda Auxiliary, have obsessed about false rumors that Sarah Palin was once a member of an Alaskan Indepence party, but will, of course, show no interest in Obama's membership in an avowedly socialist political party.

Obama hires vote fraud specialist ACORN

Obama himself once worked for ACORN, which has been involved in numerous vote fraud schemes around the country, and as this article points out, no previous presidential candidate has chosen to associate his campaign with this far left, dishonest organization.

There have been a number of articles recently about Obama's association with ACORN. Thanks to Kathleen Tudor for referring this one.

Michael Reagan says his dad has been reborn

This was written after Palin's convention speech by Ronald Reagan's son Michael Reagan. It's not brand new, but worth reading. When I saw her speech, it reminded me of Reagan's '64 speech at the Republican convention. Michael Reagan makes the same comparison.

The Obama - Ayers Connection

Here's a good piece reviewing and correcting a NYT article purporting to analyze the Obama - Ayers relationship. It's a wonder anyone reads the NYT anymore. It has really sunk to the bottom in terms of credibility.

Correlating state growth rates with spending and taxes

This shows that higher state taxes and spending correlate with higher unemployment and slower growth - just what Obama has planned for us.

The smoking gun on responsibility for the financial mess

Here's a 1999 NYT article on Fannie Mae's move to increase subprime lending, and the pressure from the Clinton administration to make these loans. And from the New York Times, no less.

Sowell on causes of the financial mess

The always excellent Thomas Sowell asks whether facts matter at all as the MSM helps the Dems avoid responsibility for the financial meltdown.

Biden contradicts himself on supporting "clean coal"

Among his many factually false statements during the debate, Slow Joe claimed he has always supported "clean coal". Here's a video showing him stating that he is opposed to building any coal power plants in America.

Senator Biden gets role of VP in Senate wrong

After having been in the Senate for 30 odd years, you might think Slow Joe would understand the constitutional role of the Vice President in that body. You'd be wrong. So here we have Slow Joe "correcting" Vice President Cheney incorrectly during the debate. A good description of the issue is in Powerline blog.

Comparison of Palin's and Biden's charitable contributions

Here's a piece at The Hill comparing Biden's and Palin's charitable giving. Since the left supports its favorite charities by giving away other people's money, it's not surprising that the Palins made less and gave more than Slow Joe.

Biden's Alternate Universe at the Debate

Joe Biden is known for his gaffes and misstatements of fact, but this example during the debate was more bizarre than most. This article is by Michael Totten, who is one of a new breed of citizen reporters who reports from combat zones instead of holing up in Baghdad's Green Zone like much of the MSM.

Senate Majority Leader Reid Causes Run on Insurance Stocks

The irrepressible Harry Reid first claimed that "a major insurance company -- one with a name that everyone knows -- that's on the verge of going bankrupt," according to Dow Jones Newswires.

After causing a major drop in insurance company stocks, "Today, the Nevada Democrat backtracked. A statement from his office said that Reid was 'not personally aware of any particular company being on the verge of bankruptcy' and that 'he has no special knowledge about nor has he talked to any insurance company officials,' Dow Jones reported."

Another day, another legislator causing major economic damage.

On Sarah Palin's Experience

It's interesting that the Obama campaign and their allies in the MSM are focusing on Palin's supposed lack of experience, when she has more executive experience than all the other candidates combined - and far more than Obama, who has never run anything larger than his office. Here's a good summary of the comparison.

Another good article on what caused the subprime mortgage mess

By now the causes of the subprime mortgage meltdown are fairly clear - to anyone who reads the right articles. Here's one from the WSJ.
